Welcome to the SONSHINER KIDs class! As a part of the KIDs Zone, the Sonshiner KIDs is the name of our Sunday School class and is for children ages kindergarten through 5th grade. "KID" in our name stands for Kids In Discipleship. A disciple is one who learns about and follows Jesus, and the children in our class learn to follow Jesus through hands-on table activities, music, stories, weekly Bible dramas, crafts and teamwork.

We are located at the Santa Clara First Baptist Church, 3111 Benton Street, Santa Clara, California, 95051. If you live near Santa Clara California or come up for a visit, I hope you will drop by our church and see what we do in our class!

THIS PAST WEEK
(May 1, 2022)

LESSON: This past week in the KIDs Zone (9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.), our Sonshiners class heard a true story about a man named Thomas who had a hard time believing that Jesus was alive. He had seen Jesus die on the cross and couldn't understand how Jesus could come back to life again. Jesus visited some of His helpers after He came back to life, but Thomas was not with his friends when Jesus showed up. "Click here" to read the story for yourself and see if Thomas ever believed that Jesus was alive.

APPLICATION GAME: Before the story, we played a game called "Believe It Or Not." In this game, the children were told some unbelievable facts and asked if they believed those facts to be true or not. Here are some of the facts from the game. Do you believe them or not?

1. A hippo can open its mouth wide enough to swallow a 4-foot wide sports car.
2. Monarch Butterflies can fly 3000 miles.
3. Kangaroos cannot walk or hop backwards.
4. Snails can sleep for up to 3 years.
5. Male bees never sting.

Would you believe these facts to be true? Well they are! So you can understand why it was possible for Thomas to find it hard to believe that Jesus could die and come back to life again. He needed to see Jesus for himself to believe this fact because it seemed impossible! But this is a fact that we CAN believe, because it IS true!

After Jesus came back to life, He spent a little more time on earth before going back to heaven to be with His Father. The exciting news is that He is preparing a place for all who believe in Him and choose to follow Him!

After our Bible story, we talked about how important it is NOT to keep the Good News of Jesus a secret. In fact, Jesus commanded us to share Him with others. Did you know there are many people that don't know that Jesus loves them and that they must follow HIM to get to heaven someday? It's true! As we learn more and more about Jesus, it is important for us to share what we know with others.

ART CENTER: This week we made Mother's Day presents for our mothers so they would be ready for next week! The children chose a potted plant and decorated a pot to put their plant in. It will be a very special gift to show our mothers how much we love them.

GAME CENTER: This week at the game table, our Sonshiners teamed up to play a fun boardgame called "Faith and Doubt".

MUSIC: This week we learned a new song called, "Get Up, Get Up" that reminded us to "Get up and tell the world" about Jesus.

Here is also song you can sing at home that reminds us that Jesus is not dead, but is alive. The song was called, "Jesus Lives Forever". These words come from a Bible verse in the Bible found in Hebrews 7:24.

This past week we heard the story about a man named Thomas. Thomas didn't believe that Jesus was alive until he saw Him with his own eyes. We learned that believing in Jesus takes faith - trusting in Him even though we will need to wait until heaven before we see Him face to face.

THIS COMING SUNDAY
(May 8, 2022)

Next Sunday is Mother's Day! We will hear a true story about a woman named Hannah that really wanted to be a mother. She prayed and told God how much she wanted to have a son. Would God bless Hannah with a child? Make sure to come at 9:15 next Sunday morning to find out!

Also... The children will be performing in the Morning Worship Service. Please bring your child to Sunday school so they can learn the song they will be singing.
